Sustainability — Lombok Cruise’s Environmental & Community Commitments

Our Commitment to Sustainability & Community Impact

The allure of a Lombok cruise lies in the pristine nature of the Indonesian archipelago: the vibrant coral reefs, the untouched beaches, the unique wildlife, and the rich cultural heritage. We at Lombok Cruise, under the guidance of Juara Holding Group, hold a profound sense of responsibility to protect and preserve these treasures for generations to come. Our commitment to sustainability is not a separate program but a philosophy woven into the very fabric of our operations. It is guided by three core pillars: Environmental Preservation, Community Empowerment, and Cultural Respect.

Pillar 1: Environmental Preservation

We are dedicated to minimizing our footprint and actively contributing to the conservation of the marine ecosystems where we operate.

  • Carbon Offsetting Program: We acknowledge the carbon footprint of travel. We partner with a VCS (Verified Carbon Standard) certified Indonesian reforestation project to calculate and offset 100% of the carbon emissions from every cruise we operate, from the fuel burned by the yacht to staff travel.
  • Active Marine Conservation Support: We are proud financial supporters and operational partners of leading NGOs like The Nature Conservancy Indonesia and the Coral Triangle Center. We contribute to their coral restoration projects and share valuable sighting data for marine megafauna research.
  • Strict No Single-Use Plastic Policy: All our partner vessels are contractually obligated to be single-use plastic-free for guest-facing items. We provide all guests with reusable water bottles and use locally-sourced glass and biodegradable containers for all provisions.
  • Advanced Waste Management: We enforce a strict zero-dumping policy. Our partner yachts are equipped with modern wastewater treatment systems, and all solid waste is sorted, compacted, and properly disposed of at designated port facilities.

Pillar 2: Community Empowerment

We believe that sustainable tourism must provide tangible, long-term benefits to the local communities.

  • Prioritizing Local Employment: We are committed to a ‘local first’ hiring policy. Over 90% of our partner vessel crews and our on-ground operations team are hired from the local communities of Lombok, Sumbawa, and Flores, providing stable, well-paid employment.
  • Sustainable Local Sourcing: We build and maintain direct relationships with local farmers, fishermen, and suppliers. Our chefs source fresh produce from organic farms in the Sembalun valley and seafood from local fishing cooperatives that use sustainable methods, ensuring the economic benefits of tourism are distributed throughout the community.
  • The Juara Community Fund: A percentage of the revenue from every booking is channeled into our dedicated community fund. This fund supports local-led initiatives focused on education, such as providing school supplies to children in remote villages, and healthcare access, by funding mobile health clinics.

Pillar 3: Cultural Respect & Preservation

We design our experiences to foster genuine, respectful cultural exchange, not intrusive observation.

  • Partnership with Community Leaders: Before we bring guests to any traditional village, such as the Sasak village of Sade, we consult with village elders and leaders. We co-design the experience to ensure it is respectful of their customs, is not disruptive to daily life, and provides direct economic benefit.
  • Supporting Traditional Craftsmanship: We facilitate direct, fair-trade opportunities for our guests to purchase authentic, high-quality crafts, such as the intricate ‘tenun’ textiles from the weavers of Sukarara village. We ensure 100% of the purchase price goes directly to the artisan.
  • Educating Our Guests: Our expert guides, many of whom are members of the HPI (Indonesian Tour Guides Association), provide rich context and briefing for our guests on local customs and etiquette, ensuring all interactions are positive and culturally sensitive.

Our sustainability journey is one of continuous improvement. We are constantly seeking new ways to innovate and deepen our positive impact. We invite you to travel with us, knowing that your journey contributes to the preservation of this extraordinary corner of the world.
